ZAL Zentrum für Angewandte Luftfahrtforschung GmbH (Center of Applied Aeronautical Research) is a research and development platform for civil aviation in Hamburg.
Nine partners from government, industry and science set it up as a public-private partnership. It runs the ZAL TechCenter, opened in 2016, which offers about 850 workspaces in hangars, laboratories and offices to companies and research institutes. ZAL's own research and technology team works on applied projects in the intelligent digital cabin, robotics and automation, industrial AI and aviation data analytics, and helps partners take technologies from idea to prototype.
ZAL coordinates the German consortium in GreenCode. Its Intelligent Digital Cabin team is building a test pipeline that measures and compares the energy, memory and CPU use of algorithm variants, with aircraft cabin systems as the application.
